About Hampton Court Palace

Upstream of central London on the River Thames sits Hampton Court Palace the favourite palace of Henry VIII.

Hampton Court Palace ChimneysThe Building of the palace began in 1515 for Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, King Henry VIII seized the palace from Wolsey when he failed to secure the annulment of his marriage to Katherine of Aragon. Hampton Court Palace became the favourite of the eight palaces that Henry VIII owned and he employed the finest craftsmen and gardeners in Europe to extend and improve the magnificent rooms and apartments. Part of the construction included the wonderful chimneys which dominate the building and it is these that have been used as the inspiration for the design of this bauble.

Along with St James's Palace, Hampton Court Palace is one of only two surviving palaces out of the many owned by King Henry VIII.
